CEDAR CITY, IRON COUNTY

 Festival City USA is home to 17 major events including the Utah Summer Games and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. It is also home to Southern Utah University, corporate headquarters to the Leavitt Insurance Group and major national manufacturing firms.

Cedar City was founded in 1851 and since that time its citizens have proven that nothing is impossible for a community that encourages everyone to pitch in and play a part.

GUNLOCK

 

Gunlock was first settled in 1857 by William "Gunlock Will" Hamblin, a pioneer settler and brother of Jacob Hamblin. During a visit to the site later that year George Albert Smith (an LDS Church general authority) named the community in honor of its first settler. In 1862, following severe flooding on the Santa Clara River at the community's former site, the original settlement was moved north to its present location.[6][7][8]
